Villa Magra is an extra virgin olive oil produced by Frantoio Franci in Montenero d’Orcia, Tuscany, Italy. Introduced in 1996 as the family mill’s first bottled olive oil, it takes its name from the historic olive grove that supplied the olives for its original production.
It is made from Frantoio, Moraiolo, and Leccino olives, harvested by hand with harvesting aids, mainly from mid-October to early November. The olives are processed at the producer’s own mill using a continuous extraction system. The oil is then filtered and has a green color with subtle yellow highlights.
Its intense fruity aroma reveals pronounced notes of green olive, fresh grass, artichoke, and cardoon, alongside hints of roasted coffee. Rich and persistent on the palate, it combines a distinctive vegetal character with balanced bitterness and pungency. It is particularly well suited as a finishing oil for bruschetta, legume soups, mushroom pasta, grilled vegetables, and red meat.
Producer
Frantoio Franci is a prestigious Italian producer of extra virgin olive oil, founded in Montenero d’Orcia, on the slopes of Mount Amiata in Tuscany. The Franci family purchased the Villa Magra olive grove and transformed an old barn into a mill, where they still produce some of the most highly regarded oils in Italy. They are known for their dedication to quality and traditional production, combining hand-picked olives with modern cold-pressing methods, preserving the aromas and nutritional values of the oil.
Their production covers 65 hectares of olive groves, cultivating various varieties. Each variety contributes specific characteristics to the oil, ranging from fruity and grassy notes to mild bitterness and spiciness.
