Fung Wong Wedding Cakes are traditional Chinese wedding pastries produced by the family-run Fung Wong bakery in Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown. Although the producer refers to them as Wedding Cakes, they are not conventional wedding cakes but individual sweet pastries traditionally presented to wedding guests in pairs. Fung Wong became widely known throughout Kuala Lumpur for these pastries during the 1950s.

The pastries are made with wheat flour, sugar, vegetable oil, and eggs, and each pair usually includes two varieties: a red pastry filled with red bean paste and a yellow pastry filled with lotus seed paste. They have a soft, slightly spongy outer layer and a dense, freshly prepared sweet filling. In accordance with Chinese wedding tradition, they are presented in pairs, while Fung Wong packages them in ornate red gift boxes decorated with gold details and phoenix motifs symbolizing happiness, harmony, and marital prosperity.

Wedding Cakes are characterized by their soft, delicate dough, moderate sweetness, and contrasting fillings. The red bean paste offers a fuller, slightly earthy flavor, while the lotus seed paste is milder, smoother, and more delicate. Although primarily intended as gifts for guests at Chinese weddings, the pastries can also be enjoyed as a dessert accompanied by Chinese tea or coffee.
