Honey Ma Gold is a spiced golden ale produced by Great Leap Brewing in China. It was the first beer developed by the brewery and remains one of its signature products. The recipe was created to combine a modern craft beer style with ingredients characteristic of Chinese agriculture and cuisine. It is brewed with locally sourced honey and aromatic Sichuan peppercorns. The honey traditionally comes from an apiary near the Great Wall and contributes a mild sweetness rather than an intensely sugary character. Sichuan peppercorns provide floral and citrus-like aromas together with their distinctive lightly numbing quality. These ingredients are supported by a pale malt base and restrained hop bitterness. The beer has a clear golden appearance and an alcohol content of approximately 6.3 percent. Its bitterness is relatively low at around 14 bitterness units which allows the honey and spices to remain prominent.
