The expression ăn sống in its name refers to the direct use of the rice paper rather than to the use of raw fillings. The product is made from rice starch, drinking-quality water, sea salt, and refined vegetable oil. It contains no preservatives, artificial colors, or harmful chemical additives. The sheets are thin, soft, and flexible enough to be folded without tearing easily. Before shaping the rolls, it is recommended to soften their surface with a damp cloth. This method adds a small amount of moisture evenly and prevents the sheet from becoming excessively wet or sticky. The wrapper is commonly combined with cooked ingredients such as boiled pork knuckle, eggs, aromatic herbs, vegetables, and root vegetables. Once wrapped, the rolls can be served immediately as a light dish similar to Vietnamese fresh rolls or a salad. The mild rice flavor allows the filling and accompanying sauce to remain prominent.
