Original Salzburger Mozartkugel is a handmade praline created in 1890 at Konditorei Fürst in Salzburg. It consists of a pistachio-marzipan core, coated with a layer of nougat and fully covered in dark chocolate.

Unlike industrial versions, each piece is still shaped and dipped by hand, which leaves a small flat mark on the surface from the traditional glazing process. The original recipe has remained unchanged for more than a century and is produced without preservatives, resulting in a shorter shelf life that reflects its artisanal character.

The texture is layered: a firm chocolate shell surrounds a softer interior with pronounced almond and pistachio notes, balanced by the mild sweetness of the nougat. The flavor profile is harmonious rather than overly sugary, with a clear contrast between dark chocolate and marzipan.

Each Mozartkugel is wrapped in the characteristic silver-blue foil featuring Mozart’s portrait, forming a recognizable visual identity. Production remains limited, and distribution is primarily through the company’s own shops in Salzburg and its official online store.

Original Salzburger Mozartkugeln represent a confection rooted in origin, craftsmanship, and continuity of traditional Austrian pastry-making.
