Gran Vino Albariño by Pazo de Barrantes is a white wine made exclusively from Albariño grapes within the Rías Baixas designation of origin. The grapes come from eight plots surrounding the winery in the Salnés Valley and the vines have an average age of approximately 40 years. The shallow soil consists of granite bedrock covered by sandy surface layers. The grapes are harvested by hand and destemmed before undergoing slow and gentle pressing in a pneumatic press. After clarification the must ferments at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. The wine then remains in contact with its fine lees for four months which contributes body and texture. During the following stage most of the wine matures in stainless steel tanks while 15 percent is aged in acacia wood barrels. The pronounced freshness characteristic of Albariño is balanced by a rounded texture and a long finish.
