Pitys Ritinitis, a traditional Greek Retsina, takes its name from the ancient myth of Pitys, the Oread nymph who was transformed into a pine tree after her tragic death. The story offers a fitting connection to this distinctive Greek wine, linking the mythology of Arcadia with one of the oldest traditions of Greek winemaking.
Pitys is made from Assyrtiko, one of Greece’s most prominent indigenous grape varieties, and follows the ancient practice of adding pine resin to wine. Historically, resin was used to protect wine from oxidation; today, Troupis Winery honours this approximately 3,500-year old tradition through a minimum-intervention approach, allowing the character of Assyrtiko and the subtle influence of pine resin to come together in a contemporary interpretation of Retsina.
The result is a distinctive expression of Ritinitis, combining the natural freshness and structure of Assyrtiko with the characteristic aromatic and resinous notes of Retsina. Pitys offers a modern yet deeply traditional interpretation of the style, designed to demonstrate that Retsina can be expressive, gastronomic and connected to both Greece’s ancient heritage and contemporary wine culture.
Pitys is recognised as one of the most awarded Greek Retsina wines, having been selected for the Hall of Fame of The Great Greek Wines. It has also received strong international critical attention, including favourable references from Robert Parker Wine Advocate and Jancis Robinson, helping establish Pitys as a distinctive modern ambassador for Greek Retsina in international markets.

Troupis Winery is a family-owned boutique winery in Fteri, at the heart of the Mantinia plateau in Greece, where vineyards sit at around 700 meters above sea level. For more than 15 years, the family has been at the forefront of Moschofilero, becoming the first and only winery in the region to explore the variety so extensively and push its potential to the limits.
Rather than being defined by its traditional light and aromatic style, Troupis Winery has shown that Moschofilero can be remarkably versatile, complex and age-worthy. Through pioneering work in the vineyard and cellar, including different clones and rootstocks, micro-vinifications and alternative winemaking vessels, the family has created an unusually broad range of expressions, exploring different colors, textures and styles while preserving the character of the variety and its high-altitude terroir.
