Valli Vineyards Gibbston Vineyard Pinot Noir is a site-driven wine that captures the cool-climate character of the Gibbston sub-region, one of the highest and coldest areas of Central Otago. The grapes come from carefully selected vineyard parcels where large diurnal temperature shifts allow slow ripening and the retention of natural acidity.

Soils dominated by schist and gravel contribute to the wine’s fine tannin profile and mineral tension. Aromatically, the wine typically shows red cherry, wild raspberry and cranberry, layered with subtle notes of dried herbs, earth and gentle spice.

On the palate it is medium-bodied, precise and linear, with bright acidity that gives freshness and definition rather than weight. Oak is used with restraint, supporting the fruit without masking the vineyard expression.

The structure is elegant rather than powerful, reflecting Gibbston’s cooler conditions compared to other Central Otago sub-regions. Vintage variation is clearly visible, reinforcing the wine’s transparency and sense of place.

This Pinot Noir is often regarded as a benchmark expression of Gibbston, valued for its finesse, balance and authenticity.
